Hello, if you're in the mood for a pleasant full-day trip full of new experiences, I have a good tip for you. Head to the beautiful area of the Burda mountains and get ready for a unique day.

As we learn from Wikipedia, Burda, or formerly known as Kováčovské kopce, is the smallest, lowest, and southernmost mountain range in Slovakia. However, don't be discouraged, you don't always need to surpass the 1000 meters above sea level to enjoy beautiful views. Besides, during the entire circular hike, you'll still gain enough elevation, even though the highest peak (Burdov) is only at 395 meters above sea level, and you'll reach a maximum of 359 meters above sea level.

You'll find basic information in the article on the kamnavylet.sk website. There, you'll learn that from the Skaly lookout at the beginning and end of the route, you can catch a view of the Hron river mouth, the Mária Valéria bridge, and most importantly, the Hungarian town of Ostrihom with its beautiful basilica and the hill Vaskapu above it. This is, of course, the most photogenic spot in this mountain range.

According to blogs, the route mostly leads through the forest and there are no extremely long or steep ascents and descents, except perhaps for one short section. So, it's an ideal place for a family outing with kids. If they can't manage the entire circuit, you can go to the lookout, descend to Kováčovo by the Danube, and then back to Kamenica along the road. Alternatively, you can drive to Kováčovo and go to the lookout from there. Of course, there are more possibilities, but I would definitely spare some time for the Skaly lookout.

The most detailed description of this area and hiking in it can be found on planetslovakia.sk, and beautiful photos from an autumn trip can be found on sme.sk. There is no English version of these articles, but AI will translate adequately, should you wish to read it.

I hope I've intrigued you enough to visit this lesser-known part of Slovakia. I'm planning to go there myself when the opportunity arises.

Your guide to Slovakia, Tomáš.
